Just as important, our support staff plays a key role in making each visit organized, comfortable, and informative—helping guide clients through every step of their pet’s care.
Our Team
Dr. Kris Laabs, DVM
Practice Owner
Dr. Laabs grew up all over the Midwest and graduated from Auburn University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 before she moved to South Carolina. She purchased Chapin Veterinary Care Center in 1997 and is the practice owner. She has grown the practice from a small one-doctor practice by the railroad tracks to the thriving multi-doctor business it is now.
She enjoys practicing general veterinary medicine and surgery, and it has certainly been quite an experience watching the veterinary hospital grow over the years! Along with her husband Alan and their two daughters, Dr. Laabs shares her home with multiple dogs, cats, and horses. In her spare time, she enjoys trail riding, camping, hiking, reading, and cross-stitching.
Dr. Haley Brazell, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Haley Brazell joined the CVCC family in June, 2025. She was born and raised in the small town of Gaston, SC. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. After undergrad, she worked as a veterinary assistant/technician with Dr. Robinson and Dr. Cabe for 4 years, and then went off to Veterinary school at Mississippi State University to pursue her doctorate in veterinary medicine. She graduated in 2021 and has been working in general practice the last four years. Dr. Brazell’s special interests are in reproductive work, wound management, and surgery.
Dr. Brazell has a dog named Maverick and a cat named Tucker, and during her downtime, she loves the outdoors or helping family and friends with projects. Her hobbies include fishing and riding her dirt-bike and four-wheeler, along with spending time with her family.

Angie Dembowski
Office Manager
Angie was born in Columbia, SC, and joined the CVCC team as a CSR in 2019 before becoming our office manager. When she’s not working, Angie enjoys traveling with her husband, Eric, spending time with her children, and being with her family, including her Yorkie, Tebow, terrier mix Benji, and two cats, Winnie and Salem.
Colleen Flanagan
Veterinary Assistant
Colleen grew up in Chapin with her first summer job at CVCC in 1998, and after leaving for college and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina, she returned in 2010 to work with Dr. Laabs as a full-time veterinary assistant. She is obsessed with every dachshund that walks through the clinic, including her two long boys, Pretzel and Finn, but also loves cats, reptiles, and spending time tending to her small herd of turtles and tortoises.
Erica Kammer
Veterinary Assistant
Erica was born in Oregon, raised in Alaska, and moved to South Carolina fifteen years ago before joining CVCC as an assistant in 2015. She currently lives in Little Mountain and enjoys spending time with her two daughters, four granddaughters, her dogs Aero and Nina, and tending to her ever-growing flock of chickens.
Courtney Grant
Veterinary Assistant
Courtney was born and raised in Columbia, SC, and has been part of the CVCC for thirteen years, ever since she started working as a kennel assistant as a teenager, and is now an experienced veterinary assistant! She loves spending time with her son and their three dogs, Bella, Bayleigh, and Tyson, and her cat Dexter, as well as spending time outdoors kayaking and recharging by the pool.
Kally Rauch, LVT
Veterinary Technician
Born and raised in Pomaria, SC, Kally graduated from Piedmont Technical College with an Associate’s degree in veterinary technology in 2022 and became a licensed veterinary technician in 2024. At home, she has an asthmatic mutt as well as a mischievous kitty.
Hannah Jacocks
Veterinary Assistant
Hannah was born and raised in West Columbia, SC, and joined the CVCC family five years ago, starting in the kennel and quickly working her way up to being a full-time assistant. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time outdoors with her Labrador Apollo.
Zoey Betty
Veterinary Assistant
Born in Hanau, Germany, and raised in Yelm, Washington, Zoey started working as a veterinary assistant here in May 2023. Her hobbies include roller derby, sewing, sculpting, and loving on her two adorably smushed-faced exotic shorthair cats Ollie and Moo- Moo.
Amanda Thomas
Veterinary Assistant
Amanda was born and raised in Southeast Texas, moved to South Carolina in the fall of 2009, and joined CVCC three and a half years ago as an assistant after a decade working in the veterinary field. She has multiple German Shorthair Pointers and enjoys spending her free time with family, friends, and the dogs.
Gabby Hudson
Veterinary Assistant
Gabby grew up in Chapin and has been working as an assistant at CVCC since August, 2023. She likes to spend her free time on the lake with friends, going to the gym, or getting lost in a good book.
Kim Crapps
Veterinary Assistant
Kim was born in Rhode Island and became an assistant at CVCC in 2026. She is currently pursuing her Associate’s degree in veterinary technology at Penn Foster, and in her free time, she enjoys obstacle course racing and staying active, as well as spending quality time with her son and daughter.
Brittany Hancock
Veterinary Assistant
Brittany joined the CVCC family as an assistant in 2019 and lives in the Chapin area with her husband and their two children. She loves spending time with her family, her kitty Valentine, and her two dogs, Mercy and June.
Brenda Hughes
Veterinary Assistant
Hailing from Scotland, Brenda has lived in the Columbia area for many years now and has worked in the veterinary field for most of her life. She joined our team as an experienced veterinary assistant several years ago and has been entertaining us with her Scottish accent ever since.
Chrissy Mehaffey
Client Service Representative
Chrissy joined our CSR team as a receptionist in 2024, and in her spare time, she enjoys knitting and spending time with her two cats and dogs.
